Summary of the Ringmer Housing Strategy

The Ringmer Housing Strategy (approved July 2009), like the Ringmer Employment Strategy (approved 2006) forms part of the Ringmer Village Plan (approved 2003). These policies should inform the Lewes District Council Local Development Framework that is now being developed and which will develop policies and allocate development sites in Lewes District to cover the next 20 years. The Lewes Local Development Framework must of course accommodate national needs for more housing as well as local views.

The Ringmer Housing Strategy reflects views expressed on the draft version and in the village survey that formed the basis for the 2003 Ringmer Village Plan.

Features of the Housing Strategy include:

  • That new housing in Ringmer should be on a scale and of a type that meets local needs;

  • That any market housing should be on a village scale and primarily comprise 2-bed and 3-bed houses suitable for young families;

  • That there should be an emphasis on new affordable housing, much of which should be for rent at affordable rents.

The suitability or otherwise of particular candidate sites for development is also relevant.
