News

Fundraising. We had a lovely time at our 'Souper Saturday' held on January 14th. Thanks to everyone who came along and supported us - including donations £130 was raised. We will do it again, but not every Saturday!

Congratulations & many thanks to Tony Heath and his family who organised the Christmas Quiz. Once again there was tremendous support and £381.50 went into our funds. The 500 club also contributes at least £400 a month. January's winners were J Sullivan; J Hart & S Kay. The grand total now stands at £91, 500.

Our plans are to better meet the needs of the village. Currently, we have to turn bookings away as we lack sufficient suitable space and we must make the premises fully accessible as well as to improve our energy efficiency and provide an IT rich Library.

As there isn't a community centre in Ringmer, our Village Hall serves this purpose - it is truly at the heart of the village. There has been a public building on the site since the 1600s. The Village Hall complex is 'owned' by the village and run by the Trustees who are all volunteers from the village. They have formed a number of committees for the management of the Village Hall.  All the groups who use the hall as their base are charged hire fees as is the Parish council. Almost all of the regular groups have held special events to raise funds for the building appeal or have given donations. Added to this, the donations we have received from individuals as well as from our 500 club have meant that almost £28000 was raised last year. Clearly we want to better that this year. As well as organising fundraising events we are also applying to lots of organisations for grants, As yet we haven't had any success but are continuing to try. One we had set our sights on is the new lottery funding designed for community capital projects - sadly, Ringmer is not eligible to apply. Applications appear to be restricted to urban areas. We will keep trying - any fundraising ideas please contact us.

500 Club. Thanks to everyone who supports the 500 club which now contributes at least £400 a month to the fund. We now have 132 members which means that the prizes are now fixed at £200 and 2 at £25.  Over £6000 has gone into the fund and knowing that we have money coming in for a year is really helpful for grant applications. Please keep joining! January's winners were J Sullivan; J Hart & S Kay. Thank you to all the members. Why not join? Or buy more shares. It costs £5 a month and you commit for at least 1 year. Your £5 a month will make a big difference to our totals. Go to the 500 Club page to download the appropriate form.

Contribute Regularly. A number of people have said that they would like to contribute regularly but don't want to do a lottery. Why not make a regular donation by standing order - we have now set this up so it can be done. Or, how about a one off donation, by cheque, cash or standing order? Any amount will be greatly appreciated. If you are a UK tax payer would you consider making a gift aid declaration? -It costs you nothing more - but we get 28p extra for every pound you give us - it comes back from the tax you have already paid. Go to the 500 Club page to download the appropriate form.

Public Events We have lots of public events coming up with the proceeds going to the Appeal.  A list of current events is as follows:

  • Saturday, 28 April, Evening
    Badminton Club Supper.

  • Saturday, 19th May 2012
The next Ringmer Fete on the Green.

  • Tuesday, 5 June
Queen's Diamond Jubilee - Village Cream Tea.

  • Saturday, 16 June

Please do help if you can. If you have any fundraising ideas, please contact me, Pam Bowmaker, Chair of Fundraising by email at:

Ringmer Village Hall - Revised Project

January 2012

Following the Parish consultation in May when it became clear that the proposed cost - over £500K was beyond reach, we have had a new plan produced & costed. Here is the revised scheme:

  • An internal toilet for the disabled and a chair lift between the Jack Hart hall and the Small hall to make the whole complex accessible.

  • The library will move into the larger space of the existing St Mary's room & then be further extended in a second phase of building.

  • A new and much larger meeting room able to take groups of 30+ will be built on the front, & be classed as an annexe.

  • Storage of equipment has been a problem for some years so the present library will be changed to a storeroom where much of the equipment currently in the main hall e.g. the big chair racks & all the equipment belonging to individual groups may be stored & so release valuable space.

  • It is intended to include as many 'green features' as is practical e.g. energy saving and energy production.

  • A new Parish Office to provide easier access to enable Councillors to meet parishioners in a better environment will be in the later phase.

The new costs are about £330,000. This includes a contingency sum but not professional costs. One essential piece of work is to move the main electricity cable to the edge of our land - £12,500.

We have so far raised £91,000 and have made a major grant application for £100K and are working on more applications, but it is very, very difficult in the current economic climate. We will continue to fundraise for the appeal this year but will decide in the summer on how much of the scheme we can afford & start the process for building. We cannot fundraise for ever; we must show something for all the efforts you have made and are making. We are all very grateful to the many Ringmer residents, clubs & organisations that support Ringmer Village Hall by raising funds for the Appeal in so many different ways. Your generosity is overwhelming. However, we need to raise as much money as possible in the coming months.
